White Eagle
Warriors Citation
White Eagle was the principal chief of the Poncas who remained in Native American Territory (now Oklahoma) in 1877 when Standing
Bear and other Poncas journeyed north to bury Standing Bear's deceased son in their homeland along the Niobrara River in northern
Nebraska.
As Standing Bear and his band waged a publicity campaign to retain their homeland, White Eagle's band made the best of their
lot in Oklahoma; he reported to a congressional committee in 1880 that they would elect to stay there. White Eagle left to
history a narrative of the U.S. Army's removal of the Poncas from their traditional lands along the Niobrara River in northern
Nebraska. From: historical accounts & records
