Chief Blackfoot
(1795-1877)
Warriors Citation
Blackfoot assumed a leadership role among the Crows in the 1850s and represented them at the negotiation of the important
Treaty of Fort Laramie in 1868. Noted as an outstanding orator, Blackfoot was generally an ally of the United States against
the Sioux, traditional enemies of the Crows.
Blackfoot's statements at several treaty councils indicate his concern that the immigrating whites might crowd his people
from their land and that hot-blooded young warriors might retaliate. From: historical accounts & records
